Endpoint convention

What Endpoint convention is

Endpoint convention is a method of assigning values to the endpoints of a set of numerical data. It is used to make the data easier to compare and interpret.

Steps for Endpoint Convention:

  1. Arrange the data in ascending or descending order.

  2. Choose an appropriate endpoint value for the set of data. This value should be the lowest or highest value in the set, depending on the type of comparison being made.

  3. Assign a value to the other endpoint of the set. This value should be equal to the chosen endpoint value plus or minus the difference between the chosen endpoint value and the next value in the set.

  4. Repeat the process until all values in the set have been assigned an endpoint value.

  5. Calculate the midpoint of the set by taking the average of the endpoint values.

  6. Use the endpoint values and the midpoint to interpret the data.

Examples

  1. Endpoint convention is used to report the results of a survey or other data collection efforts. For example, if a survey was conducted to determine the average income of a certain demographic, the endpoint convention would be used to report the results of the survey.

  2. Endpoint convention is also used to analyze trends over time. For instance, if a researcher wanted to compare the average household income from one year to another, the endpoint convention would be used to generate a graph showing the change in average income over time.

  3. Endpoint convention can also be used to compare different groups to one another. For example, if a researcher wanted to compare the average income of women to men, the endpoint convention could be used to generate a graph illustrating the difference between the two groups.
