What Categorical is

Categorical data is a type of data that is used to classify or label items into distinct categories. It is usually qualitative in nature, and is used to distinguish between different types of information. Examples of categorical data include gender, race, social class, educational level, and religious affiliation.

Steps for Categorical:

  1. Define the categories of data that will be used.
  2. Determine the criteria that will be used to assign items to each of the categories.
  3. Collect the data and classify each item into the appropriate category.
  4. Store the data in a database or other data structure for further analysis.
  5. Analyze the data to draw conclusions about the categories and their relationship to each other.

  1. Analyzing the results of a survey by grouping responses into different categories.
  2. Examining the relationship between gender and educational attainment.
  3. Using type of employment as a predictor of income.
  4. Determining whether there is a relationship between age groups and voting patterns.
  5. Investigating the relationship between marital status and health outcomes.
  6. Examining the effect of different levels of education on job satisfaction.
