What Qualitative is

Qualitative is a type of data that is non-numerical in nature. It is often used to describe characteristics or qualities of a specific group or population. Qualitative data can be collected through interviews, focus groups, surveys, and observations.

Steps for Qualitative Data Collection:

  1. Define the research question: Define the research question that you are trying to answer with qualitative data.

  2. Select data collection methods: Select the most appropriate data collection methods, such as interviews, focus groups, surveys, and observations.

  3. Design data collection instruments: Design the data collection instruments, such as interview questions, focus group questions, and survey questions.

  4. Collect the data: Collect data from the selected sample using the designed data collection instruments.

  5. Analyze the data: Analyze the data using qualitative data analysis techniques such as content analysis, thematic analysis, and discourse analysis.

  6. Interpret the results: Interpret the results of the analysis and draw conclusions about the research question.
