Uncontrolled experiment

What Uncontrolled experiment is

An uncontrolled experiment is an experiment that is conducted without any external control, or manipulation, of the variables being studied. This type of experiment is typically used to test a hypothesis or to gain a better understanding of the subject being studied. The main goal of an uncontrolled experiment is to observe the natural behavior of the variables under study.

Steps for Uncontrolled Experiment:

  1. Identify the research question.

  2. Describe the experimental setup.

  3. Collect data and observe the behavior of the variables.

  4. Analyze the data and draw conclusions.

  5. Report the findings.

Examples

  1. A researcher studies the effects of a new sleep medication on insomnia by assigning half of the participants to take the medication, and the other half to take a placebo.

  2. A researcher studies the effectiveness of a new teaching method by assigning half of the students in a classroom to the experimental group, who receive the new teaching method, and the other half to the control group, who receive the traditional teaching method.

  3. A researcher studies the effect of different diets on weight loss by assigning half of the participants to a low-fat diet, and the other half to a low-carb diet.
