Range

What Range is

Range is a measure of dispersion in statistics. It is the difference between the highest and lowest values in a data set. The range can be used to identify outliers and to measure the variability of the data.

Steps for calculating Range:

  1. Arrange the data set in ascending or descending order.
  2. Find the highest value (maximum) and the lowest value (minimum) in the data set.
  3. Subtract the minimum value from the maximum value.
  4. The result is the Range of the data set.

Examples

  1. Range is used to measure the spread of a dataset, which is the difference between the highest and lowest values within that dataset.

  2. Range is used to identify outliers in a dataset.

  3. Range can be used to compare the spread of two different datasets.

  4. Range is used to measure the variability of a dataset.

  5. Range can be used to calculate the standard deviation of a dataset.
