Converse

What Converse is

The converse of a statement is the inverse of the statement. In other words, it is a statement that expresses the opposite of the original statement.

For example, the converse of the statement “If I go to the store, then I will buy milk” is “If I do not buy milk, then I will not go to the store”.

Steps for Converse:

  1. Identify the statement that needs to be converse.

  2. Identify the two parts of the statement and their relationship.

  3. Reverse the relationship between the two parts.

  4. Reword the statement to express the new relationship.

  5. Check your work to ensure the converse is correct.

Examples

  1. Converse in statistics is used to establish inverse relationships between two variables, such as showing that an increase in one variable results in a decrease in the other.

  2. Converse in statistics can also be used to test for significance between two variables, such as to determine if there is a statistically significant correlation between two variables.

  3. Converse in statistics is also used to compare the means of two groups, such as to compare the mean heights of men and women in a population.
