What Converse is
The converse of a statement is the inverse of the statement. In other words, it is a statement that expresses the opposite of the original statement.
For example, the converse of the statement “If I go to the store, then I will buy milk” is “If I do not buy milk, then I will not go to the store”.
Steps for Converse:
-
Identify the statement that needs to be converse.
-
Identify the two parts of the statement and their relationship.
-
Reverse the relationship between the two parts.
-
Reword the statement to express the new relationship.
-
Check your work to ensure the converse is correct.
Examples
-
Converse in statistics is used to establish inverse relationships between two variables, such as showing that an increase in one variable results in a decrease in the other.
-
Converse in statistics can also be used to test for significance between two variables, such as to determine if there is a statistically significant correlation between two variables.
-
Converse in statistics is also used to compare the means of two groups, such as to compare the mean heights of men and women in a population.
